A 20-year-old man was killed Friday after the vehicle he was in was struck by a cement truck in Steinbach.
Manitoba RCMP say the two-vehicle crash happened at around 12:20 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 52 and Industrial Road.
According to police, the man was in an eastbound vehicle being driven by his father, a 46-year-old man from Kleefeld, when it made a left-hand turn onto Industrial Road. Police say that’s when it was struck by a westbound cement truck, being driven by a 50-year-old man from La Broquerie.
Both occupants of the first vehicle were rushed to hospital, where the passenger died. The driver of the cement truck wasn’t injured.
Alcohol and speed aren’t considered factors in the crash, and seatbelts were being worn at the time.
As of 4 p.m., the westbound lane of Highway 52 and Industrial Drive, between Highway 52 and Acres Drive, remains closed to traffic.
