IIU Investigates After Suspect’s Rib Broken During Arrest

Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba - IIUThe Independent Investigation Unit is probing the arrest of a man in northern Manitoba after he sustained a broken rib.

RCMP in Thompson responded to a call to remove an intoxicated man from a home. The IIU says he resisted attempts to be handcuffed and fled on foot. Once located, he was eventually taken into custody, but complained of sore ribs. He was examined at the Thompson hospital and was found to have a broken rib.

The IIU says because the injury is considered serious, an investigation has been launched.

No further details will be released until the investigation is complete.
