It will cost you more to park your vehicle on a downtown Winnipeg street beginning this weekend.
As of April 1, on-street parking rates will increase by $1.50 per hour.
Those motorists who use the PayByPhone app on their smartphone will benefit from the old, cheaper parking rates over the six to eight weeks it will take to reprogram the city’s pay stations. Stickers on each station will indicate whether that location has been changed and inform drivers of the increase.
The Winnipeg Parking Authority will also be updating a map on its website with the pay stations that have been switched over to the new rate.
Anyone with unused scratch and park meter passes can bring them to the Winnipeg Parking Authority office at 495 Portage Avenue and exchange them for updated passes based on the new rate by paying the difference in value. Passes with the lower rate will be valid until June 1, 2018.
The city is also lowering the early payment discount charged for parking tickets from 50 percent to 25 percent of the fine.
