Construction on a new six-stall Tesla Supercharger Station will soon begin in Portage la Prairie.

Winnipeg-based real estate development company Shindico has partnered with the automobile maker to bring the charging station to a parcel of land they own at Portage’s Westfield Crossing shopping centre.

Depending on the charge needed, Tesla owners could pop in for a quick boost and be on their way down the Trans-Canada Highway again in no time.

Shindico says they chose Portage la Prairie for the location because of the recent $460 million investment by Simplot to expand its potato plant, and Europe-based Roquette’s nearly half-billion commitment into a pea processing plant.

The modern infrastructure is being funded through Tesla and will eventually expand to Brandon’s Corral Centre next.

Construction on the charging islands is expected to be completed in Portage la Prairie by late August.
