Police Recover $28K in Stolen Jewellery from Winnipeg Store

Winnipeg Police CrestA 33-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges after allegedly robbing a jewellery store over the weekend.

Police were called to the 300 block of Portage Avenue at around 10 a.m. on Saturday, where a security officer was in pursuit of the suspect.

Officers found the man in custody of two security officers in the area of Portage Avenue and Kennedy Street. He sustained two cuts during the robbery and was treated in hospital before being released.

Police say the man confronted and threatened an employee with a knife while demanding the safe be opened. The employee was able to flee before the man smashed two glass display cases and stole approximately $28,000 in jewellery.

The stolen items were later recovered.

Brandon Cory Richards has been charged with numerous offences, including robbery and failing to comply with a probation order.
