Winnipeg police have arrested a man accused of striking a woman repeatedly with a machete on February 24.
Police say the victim was in the area of Magnus Avenue between Chudley Street and Buller Avenue when she was hit several times with the knife. The attack forced her to the ground, where she was then kicked in the head, face and upper body before being hit again with the machete.
Police arrested Vincent Rupert Thompson of Winnipeg, 29, on Wednesday in the 200 block of Park Manor Boulevard.
He has been charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats, intimidation and possession of a weapon.
Thompson remains in custody.
