WINNIPEG — It’s a special anniversary for the TELUS Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad as the annual fundraiser to battle prostate cancer celebrates 10 years.
A campaign kickoff event on Friday set the tone for weeks of fundraising pledges and rider registrations in advance of the May 26 event.
“Our volunteer organizing committee is dedicated to the cause and we are delighted with the growth the Ride for Dad has seen over the past 10 years,” said Moe Sabourin, co-chair, MRFD.
“The community gets involved as registered riders, pledge donors, sponsors, or volunteers and we are so very grateful for 10 great years of support.”
Organizers also unveiled more than $355,000 had been raised during last year’s ride with the help of over 1,500 riders.
In conjunction with the Winnipeg Police Association and the business community, more than $1.85 million has been raised for prostate cancer research and awareness in the province.
More than 300,000 men, women and children have raised nearly $30 million nationally to fight prostate cancer as event cities nationwide take part. Funds raised in Manitoba stay in the province, going to support prostate cancer research and education.
