While Winnipeggers paint downtown streets in a flash of white on May 1 to cheer on the Winnipeg Jets, Selkirk residents will be having their own fun.

The city just north of Winnipeg is organizing its own Selkirk Whiteout party on Manitoba Avenue East beginning at 5 p.m.

“Selkirk’s vision in revitalizing the downtown commercial core has been turning into a reality”, said city CAO Duane Nicol.

“We see events like this and the popular Holiday Alley that took place in December of 2017 as an opportunity to have Manitoba-Ave-East seen as a vibrant place for recreation, commerce and community building.”

The party will welcome Jets fans from all over with entertainment by R&R the Band, food vendors, and a big screen that will air the game Jets-Predators game at 7 p.m.

The city says Tuesday’s party is a one-time event to test the waters for potential future parties.

Selkirk Transit will extend service between 5-11 p.m. to run every half hour and is also offering a park and ride from Canadian Tire located at the west end of Manitoba Avenue.
