ZHODA, Man. – A reeve in southern Manitoba says his home has been destroyed by a brush fire that hit the property like a freight train.

Jim Swidersky with the Rural Municipality of Stuartburn says he soaked his house with water, but the dwelling was gone within 20 minutes on Sunday.

He says he has nothing left but the clothes he was wearing and his truck.

Swidersky had lived in the home west of Zhoda for 20 years.

He says the important thing is that no one was hurt.

La Broquerie Fire Chief Al Nadeau says the fire has been contained and is under control.
