RCMP are investigating alcohol as playing a role in a fatal single-vehicle crash early Thursday on Highway 6.
An SUV carrying two people lost control at around 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Auction Mart Road, just south of Ashern, Manitoba.
RCMP say the 42-year-old Powerview woman driving the vehicle was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died. The driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle on impact.
Her 53-year-old male passenger, from Hollow Water First Nation, wasn’t injured when the northbound SUV rolled into the ditch.
Police are continuing to investigate.
Ashern is located about two hours northwest of Winnipeg.
