WINNIPEG — City Councillor Marty Morantz is taking a run at federal politics.

The councillor for Charleswood-Tuxedo-Whyte Ridge announced his candidacy on Thursday, seeking the nomination for the Conservative Party in the federal riding of Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia-Headingley.

“This seems the right time in my life to step forward and offer a positive, conservative alternative at the federal level with the goal of being able to impact and improve upon the lives of Canadians,” Morantz said.

Morantz was elected in 2014 and served on both executive policy committee and as chair of the infrastructure committee. He stepped down from both appointments upon making the announcement. St. Boniface Councillor Matt Allard will move into the vacant EPC position.

Morantz will remain as a councillor for his ward until the next municipal election in October.
