The pediatric cardiology clinic at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg is in store to be redeveloped and relocated.
Manitoba Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen says the relocation will centralize and streamline a “fragmented system,” resulting in improved accessibility and quality care for children in need of cardiology services.
“This investment continues our efforts to modernize health-care infrastructure and allow the clinic to provide quality, family-centred care for Manitoba families,” Goertzen said.
The clinic is currently located at 685 William Avenue and will move to the new HSC Diagnostic Centre of Excellence building next to Children’s Hospital. It was originally built in the 1980s and designed for one-third of the present clinic volume.
A request for proposals is being issued for the work, which will be funded by the Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Manitoba government at $3.5 million.
Construction is expected to begin later this year.
