Citing the potential for massive crowds and a desire to keep the site safe, those attending the upcoming Whiteout Street Parties will now have to grab a ticket – but it’s OK, they’re free.

“To ensure the site remains safe, secure, and enjoyable for everyone, True North, along with Economic Development Winnipeg and the City of Winnipeg, has made the decision to issue tickets online,” said EDWpg in a statement.

“Having a pre-determined street party capacity, achieved through ticketing, allows organizers to eliminate the variables of larger-than-expected crowds and to assess more accurately the necessary resources required to keep the street party a safe and enjoyable experience for all fans.”

Party hosts Economic Development Winnipeg says the tickets will be available on Ticketmaster for a free download. About 25,000 free tickets will be issued, with 22,000 for the party site and 3,000 for the family site at Millennium Park. There will be a maximum of eight tickets available per order.

The next party will happen Saturday starting at 4 p.m. Tickets will be available at 12 p.m. Friday.
