Winnipeg police have recovered the body of a man who went missing when a boat capsized on the Red River May 4.
Four men were boating at around 11:15 p.m. in the area of the Chief Peguis Trail Bridge when the watercraft capsized. Three of the boaters were able to make it safely to shore, but the fourth man didn’t make it.
Police say they were notified on May 12 that a body was found in the Red River near Main Street and Benn Avenue. The man was identified as the missing boater.
Friends have identified him as Brett Oryniak, 27.
The operator of the boat was taken into custody and also faces charges of impaired driving causing death and causing death by criminal negligence. He was released on a promise to appear.
