Talk, Country and Rock: Winnipeg’s Spring Radio Ratings

Radio

Not much has changed in a year when it comes to what Winnipeggers prefer listening to on the radio.

The latest spring radio ratings book, released on Thursday, dials in talk radio, country and classic rock as the top three local choices among listeners.

CBC Radio One and 680 CJOB take the top two spots as the city’s most-listened-to AM stations, while QX 104 continued its dominance as the #1 FM station for the second straight year. QX 104 also led the FM charge during the fall ratings period.

“QX 104 had an absolutely stellar book and reached heights never seen before, #1 in most demo’s, adults and females,” Heidi Rasmussen, general manager of The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, tells ChrisD.ca.

“That said, our cluster remains very solid with both stations (QX 104 and 94.3 The Drive) in the top five FMs in the market, A12+.”

Rasmussen also noted it appears to be a “race to the middle” in the key demographics, with less than a share point separating as many four-rank positions.

Coming in at #2 on the FM front, 92.1 CITI dipped slightly from the fall, but still maintained a comfortable position.

Bell Media’s three radio stations all found themselves in familiar company on the charts. 99.9 BOB FM, 103.1 Virgin Radio and TSN Radio 1290 were all separated by less than a full share.

The below data is for the 12+ demographic, with the Fall 2017 ratings in parentheses for comparison. Numeris measured the listening period from February 26 to April 22.
