Local restaurants are competing this week to see who can serve up the best hot pie to its pizza-loving customers.
Manitoba Pizza Week is an initiative by food delivery service SkipTheDishes, happening June 4-10, where dozens of novelty and traditional pizzas are being whipped up for the occasion.
“With toppings like crispy-fried wontons, Manitoba farmer sausage, sliced dill pickles and even deep-fried Bothwell mozzarella bites, the flavour combinations will inspire a whole new level of craving for pizza,” said Kendall Bishop, director of marketing for SkipTheDishes.
Organizers invited Winnipeg chefs to create new pizza menus featuring quality toppings and Bothwell cheeses, but many dishes include unique ingredients, meant to truly put the “special” in speciality creations.
Menus are available at ManitobaPizzaWeek.com, which is where pizza-craving lovers can also vote in four award categories for their favourite: Best Pizza, Best Vegetarian Pizza, Blest Gluten Free Pizza and Best Bothwell Cheese Pizza. Winners will be announced on the website and customers can also enter to win free pizza from the participating restaurants.
A portion of proceeds from Manitoba Pizza Park will be donated to the K.I.D.S. Initiative in support of sustainable education in Kenya.
