WINNIPEG — A group of health-care workers plan to rally on Tuesday to save the Concordia Hospital emergency room from closing next spring.

As part of the province’s second phase of its Healing our Health System plan, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority will close the Concordia ER in June 2019.

“The Pallister government was elected on a promise to protect public services and the workers who deliver them. This promise has not just been broken, it’s shattered,” said
Debbie Boissonneault, president of CUPE 204.

“CUPE members at Concordia Hospital want to show the community that we will fight for our ER.”

The members will rally from 11:30 a.m. to noon tomorrow on Corcordia’s front steps.

“We’re rallying with a message for Premier Pallister: we will not give up, we will continue to speak out and work to keep the Concordia E.R. open.”

Along with Concordia, the ER at Seven Oaks General Hospital will close in September 2019.
