By The Canadian Press

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG – Winnipeg police have charged two women in an apartment rental scam that targeted people in Ontario and Alberta.

Officers say several people responded to ads for apartments for rent in Ottawa and Banff in 2015.

They were asked to send e-transfer security deposits in advance, but then had no further contact with the poster of the ads.

Police in Ottawa and Banff aided investigators with Winnipeg’s financial crime unit.

The two suspects, who are 41 and 43, were recently arrested in Winnipeg.

The each face charges of fraud and have been released on promises to appear in court.
