RCMP Logo VehicleA four-year-old boy has died in Shamattawa, Manitoba while swimming in Gods River.

RCMP say the child began struggling while in the water on June 12 and eventually went under. In-water, boat and shore searches couldn’t locate the child. Community members set up nets to prevent the child from being swept away by the current.

Rescuers continued their search into the night, while a provincial helicopter assisted the following day. RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team arrived on June 14 — the same day community members checked their nets and located the child’s body.

Foul play is not suspected.
