Winnipeg police have arrested a man they say posed as one of their own and pulled a woman over last month.
The 51-year-old woman was driving in the area of Eric Street and Beliveau Boulevard on June 24 when a white Ford Crown Victoria activated an emergency dashboard light. The driver approached the woman and flashed a small badge claiming to be a law enforcement officer.
The man left after a brief conversation and the woman contacted police with the vehicle’s description to verify the encounter.
Officers were able to identify the driver and make an arrest. They also say his vehicle was unregistered.
A 38-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with personating a peace officer and various offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
