Winnipeg law firm Thompson Dorfman Sweatman is the first tenant to occupy the new True North Square office tower downtown.
TDS will occupy the top three floors of 242 Hargrave Street after moving from their 28-year home at Portage and Main.
“We can see that Winnipeg has gained a new sense of confidence and energy that extends throughout the downtown, which is no longer defined by one intersection,” said TDS CEO and managing partner Keith LaBossiere.
“We know that the next generation of lawyers at our firm wants to continue that legacy by investing in downtown and True North Square.
TDS is the official law firm of the Winnipeg Jets, which are owned by True North Sports + Entertainment.
The new office space includes locally-sourced furniture and was designed by a local architecture firm. Manitoba Tyndall stone is featured in the reception area and a new TDS brand, videos and refreshed website were created by Winnipeg marketing firms. A large brass gate in the lobby created by local blacksmiths includes a design that spells out TDS in Morse Code.
The law firm has also omitted to bring over its walls of law books, which have been replaced digitally to free up meeting space.
True North Square will eventually house offices for up to 1,500 workers, 288 hotel suites and 324 rental apartments and condominiums.
