The coveted Stanley Cup will be back in Winnipeg this weekend when NHL champion Madison Bowey brings it to the city.
The Washington Capitals defenceman is a former Varsity View Falcon and will carry the cup into his childhood club for a party.
“My hockey career began here, at this great community club in this wonderful hockey city, and this is my chance to pay tribute to everyone who helped me get started, and encouraged me to keep going,” Bowey said in a statement.
“It’s a great honour to have this privilege and I can’t wait to celebrate back home in my community.”
Besides a Stanley Cup, Bowey has also won two gold medals for Team Canada.
The cup will be at the Varsity View Community Club (4230 Ridgewood Avenue) on Saturday, July 28 at 3 p.m. Some fans will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with Bowey and the cup. If time permits, one item per fan will be available to receive an autograph.
The free event will run until 6 p.m.
