By The Canadian Press

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG – Winnipeg police say charges will not be laid in the death of an eight-year-old boy who died in hospital after he was hit in a pedestrian crosswalk while walking to school last winter.

Police say the decision not to lay charges was reached after a thorough investigation, but no explanation was given.

The boy was struck just before 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 13 at the intersection of St. Anne’s Road and Varennes Avenue.

He was in critical condition when he was taken to hospital.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

A parent who has children that attend the school said at the time that the boy was struck a few minutes after a crossing guard had finished her shift.
