WINNIPEG — A Lockport man is in police custody after a woman was found with an upper body gunshot wound on Saturday morning.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Andrews Street and Aberdeen Avenue when they came across the woman in a parked truck at around 2:05 a.m.
She was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she was later upgraded to stable.
A male suspect approached police a short time later and threw a firearm between two parked vehicles. Police say he then placed his arms in the air and was arrested.
Police say the suspect was the owner of the truck and had been in a dispute with the victim and an acquaintance before the woman was shot.
Donald Michael Kargus, 40, has been charged with attempted murder and numerous firearms-related charges. He remains in custody.
