Cyclist Shot Trying to Flee from Suspects in Weston Area: Police

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG — An 18-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot last weekend while riding his bike.

The man was riding along with two relatives Saturday evening when four suspects confronted them in the area of Roy Avenue and Cecil Street.

Police say the suspects boxed them in with their SUV and the two parties didn’t know each other.

A 24-year-old man pulled out a gun and the victims tried to run away, but one of them fell. That’s when, police say, the victim was shot and sustained serious injuries.

Police caught up to the suspect vehicle a short time later near Logan Street and Arlington Avenue. The SUV fled from officers, but crashed in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue.

Three men, aged, 23, 23 and 24, as well as an 18-year-old woman, were arrested and charged. Police also recovered a sawed-off shotgun.

All four suspects remain in custody.
