Winnipeg police safely took a “distressed” man into custody on Friday who wanted officers to shoot him.
Police say the man called 911 himself after taping large machetes to his hands and making a shield to prevent being Tasered. The man called to say an armed male was outside his Robertson area home with a machete.
When police arrived, the suspect advanced towards officers, but they were able to safely retreat. Additional units showed up and the man again tried to advance on police while yelling for them to shoot him.
Police say a less lethal weapon was used to arrest the man.
The 34-year-old Winnipeg suspect has been charged with possession of a weapon and failing to comply with a probation order.
He remains in custody.
