Competitive drone racing will find itself in the skies above Steinbach this weekend.

The Winnipeg chapter of the Drone Racing league MultiGP is hosting the thrilling National Qualifier race on Saturday.

Event director Louis Plett says racing drones is quite the adrenaline rush.

“The feeling like you’re piloting a fighter jet. The challenge of constantly pushing your piloting skills. The satisfaction of figuring out the technology and getting to fly something you built yourself,” he said.

The winner will receive airfare and accommodation to compete at the National Championships in Ottawa later this year.

Organizers say FPV Drone Racing is quickly becoming a growing sport among those looking to compete in intense two-minute pilot battles.

Spectators are welcome to watch the races at the Steinbach baseball diamonds at 330 Park Road East from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
