A bike’s registration led to the arrest of a man after Winnipeg police discovered it was reported as stolen.
Police were on patrol Monday afternoon in the area of Alfred Avenue and Aikins Street when they noticed a man commit an infraction under the Highway Traffic Act.
Police found the bike he was riding to have been stolen August 9 while locked up at a restaurant near Erin Street and Portage Avenue.
Officers searched the suspect and found a collapsible baton weapon and one ounce of methamphetamine worth about $850.
The stolen bike will be returned to its owner.
Cory Jason Carvajal, 33, faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a weapon and possession of a scheduled substance.
He remains in custody.
This arrest would not have happened if the bike hadn't been reported stolen. A reminder that it is important to know your serial number, a detailed description of your bike and make a report as soon as possible if taken. You can report online here: https://t.co/DpE7wktZJD pic.twitter.com/TVebOwflXs
