WINNIPEG — The vacant hole left by the departed Sears store inside Garden City Shopping Centre has a new tenant.
Seafood City Supermarket is a Filipino-focused grocer and will open its first location in Winnipeg. The market is one of several tenants to occupy the 92,000-square-foot space, which the mall says is being divided for an improved shopping experience.
Seafood City Supermarket is known in North America as the leading one-stop market, shopping, dining and retail hub catering to the Asian-Filipino lifestyle. It operates locations in southern and northern California, Seattle, Hawaii, Chicago, Nevada, and Mississauga.
“We are a proud member of the Winnipeg community and we are excited to start phase two of our redevelopment,” said Rebecca Hyatt, property manager of RioCan’s Manitoba portfolio.
“We look forward to welcoming Seafood City Supermarket and announcing the other exciting additions that will allow us to better support the daily needs of our customers.”
Seafood City Supermarket will occupy approximately 43,000 square feet, and plans to open in summer 2019. The remaining space will become home to smaller stores. Mall officials say a new entrance facing onto McPhillips Street will also be created as part of the renovation.
