Winnipeg Police CrestThe driver of a stolen car took police on a wild run Tuesday morning once officers tried to pull the vehicle over.

Police noticed the vehicle in the area of Chalmers Avenue and Watt Street at around 1:40 a.m. and tried to initiate a traffic stop. That’s when the driver drove over a boulevard and fled from police.

Officers caught up to the car travelling south on Lagimodiere Boulevard near the Perimeter Highway, when the driver quickly turned eastbound and crossed all lanes into a construction site. Once back on the Perimeter Highway, the vehicle turned around to head west and back through the construction site’s unfinished overpass.

Officers found a backpack in the vehicle containing identification and several prescription pads stolen from various locations in Winnipeg and Brandon.

Police say the vehicle was reported stolen from Selkirk on September 3.

Joseph Louis Savino of Winnipeg, 32, faces numerous charges, including resisting arrest. He remains in custody.
