Drunk driving and speed are being blamed in a fatal crash that killed a 69-year-old man on Friday night.

The two-vehicle crash happened at around 8:20 p.m. on Highway 17 about six kilometres west of Teulon.

RCMP say an eastbound vehicle being driven by a 27-year-old Inwood man hit the shoulder and overcorrected when it struck a westbound vehicle.

Both drivers were taken to hospital. The RM of Armstrong man in the westbound vehicle was later pronounced deceased.

The Inwood man was arrested for impaired driving causing death and remains in hospital.

It’s unclear if seatbelts were used by either driver, but police believe speed also played a role.

RCMP continue to investigate.
