WINNIPEG — The site of the former Public Safety Building is the subject of an expression of interest for new affordable housing.
CentreVenture Development Corporation is accepting EOIs from non-profit housing developers who wish to build on the future Market Lands site.
The 2.4-acre redevelopment site in Winnipeg’s Exchange District would be home to 100 modest apartment units and approximately 1,100 square metres of ground floor space for a “cultural hub.” CentreVenture’s vision would develop 0.8 acres of the total space.
“We’re now bringing together the partnerships and the financing required to make the Market Lands a reality,” said Angela Mathieson, CEO of CentreVenture.
“This EOI is seeking a partner who shares the vision of making this important site a welcoming and inclusive place with housing options for all incomes.”
CentreVenture also wants to develop a one-storey public market building of approximately 650 square metres for permanent and revolving local vendors of food and goods,
integrated high-quality outdoor public spaces, including a large public plaza.
An international design competition surrounding the development will be awarded in December 2018. Construction is expected to begin in 2020.
