Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police have charged a man after the death of a 21-month-old baby boy last month.

Police responded to the report of an unresponsive child at a home in the 100 block of Idlewild Bay on August 30.

The child was taken to hospital in critical condition and pronounced deceased.

Allen Joseph Frier Beardy of Winnipeg, 22, has been charged with manslaughter. Police say the man is the boy’s mother’s boyfriend.

Police say it’s believed the child was injured by Beardy earlier in the day at a home in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue, and a second time at the Idlewild Bay residence.

The child’s mother called 911 when she found him unresponsive. The cause of death is being attributed to blunt force trauma to the child’s upper body.

Beardy remains in custody.

The arrest was announced Sunday after a lengthy investigation by the WPS Child Abuse Unit.
