WINNIPEG — Four youths are in police custody after several people were robbed and assaulted on Sunday afternoon.
A 35-year-old woman was punched several times in the area of Furby Street and Ellice Avenue when the group tried to steal her jacket and belongings.
The suspects fled the scene when a bystander intervened. The woman was later treated for her injuries.
Shortly after, a 19-year-old woman was robbed of her cell phone and wallet at knifepoint in the 300 block of Balmoral Street. She was also hit several times by the suspects and treated in hospital.
An unidentified woman was later kicked when refusing to provide a cigarette to the suspects in the area of Edmonton Street and Portage Avenue. They then tried to steal her purse when a bystander intervened.
Police say the youths boarded a bus, but officers caught up to them near Portage Avenue and Waterfront Drive. The stolen cell phone and a small knife were recovered.
A 14-year-old boy, and three females, ages 14, 15, and 16, have been charged with three counts of robbery and possession of a weapon.
Police say all the robberies and assaults occurred between 3:20 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
