An in-person transaction went south for a Winnipeg man who was wanting to purchase an electronic item he saw posted online.
Police say the 36-year-old victim met with the seller in the area of Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street on Monday night.
That’s when the seller pulled out a gun and asked the victim to walk away from his vehicle. The suspect got into the man’s 2004 blue four-door Ford Explorer and took off. The victim wasn’t injured.
Winnipeg police haven’t been able to locate the vehicle and ask anyone with information to call (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
Police suggest always asking for a photo of the serial number of an item before purchasing it and to conduct a search to find out if an item is stolen. They also say to check the buyer/seller’s name online, never meet them after dark and only in a public space equipped with cameras.
