Brandon police arrested a man Sunday morning after finding 22 boxes of unmarked cigarettes in his vehicle.

Police stopped the vehicle at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and 18th Street North. The driver told them he had a suspended driver’s licence and was arrested.

While in custody, police searched the back of the half-ton truck and found 220,000 contraband cigarettes in numerous sealed boxes unmarked for taxes.

The 47-year-old Calgary man has been charged with transporting illegal cigarettes, tobacco not marked for tax purposes and suspended driving.

The truck and cigarettes were seized.
