The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority has chosen its interim CEO to lead the organization on a permanent basis.

Real Cloutier was named president and CEO on Wednesday by the WRHA’s board of directors.

Cloutier has spent more than 30 years in senior leadership roles within Manitoba’s health-care system. He had been acting in the interim role for the last 16 months, which saw significant changes to the province’s health-care system, including in the capital region.

“Our health system is in the midst of significant and historic transformation, and ensuring we have the right person to lead this work is critical not only for the WRHA, but for all Manitobans,” said Karen Dunlop, chair of the WRHA board of directors.

“In concluding a comprehensive search involving a deep pool of highly qualified candidates, we are very pleased with the result and confident that under Real’s leadership the WRHA will continue to improve on the delivery of quality and sustainable health care.”
