Winnipeg police arrested a man Thursday night in a dramatic takedown outside a beer vendor in the south end of the city.
Officers responded to the Canad Inns Bottle Stop on Plaza Drive near Pembina Highway at around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a man armed with a knife.
Police say the suspect had locked several employees inside, but they were able to flee the building.
As additional officers arrived, contact was made with the man inside in an attempt to resolve the situation.
Police eventually used a non-lethal bean bag gun to take the suspect into custody at around 7:20 p.m. He tried to run away, but was tackled by multiple officers.
The man was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons and charges are pending.
Traffic along northbound Pembina Highway was snarled for several hours as police closed Plaza Drive.
