Man Charged After Stabbing, Uttering Racial Slurs on Winnipeg Bus

Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police have arrested and charged a man they say robbed another man at knifepoint who was waiting for a bus early Sunday.

The victim was standing in the area of Graham Avenue and Edmonton Street at around midnight when the suspect began yelling and swearing. He placed a knife to the victim’s neck and robbed him of his cell phone and wallet. The victim wasn’t injured and the suspect soon boarded a bus near Graham Avenue and Donald Street.

Once on board, police say he began yelling racial slurs at a black man and threatened to stab him. He followed the victim off the bus, where two witnesses then intervened. A struggle ensued and one of the males was stabbed in the lower body.

Police arrived and took the man into custody.

Devon Evan Charles Henderson of Winnipeg, 23, has been charged with robbery, uttering threats, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. He was also charged with being unlawfully at large due to an outstanding warrant.

Henderson remains in custody.
