Winnipeg Police CrestA vehicle Winnipeg police believed was previously involved in a hit and run smashed head-on into one of their cruisers on Friday night.

Police spotted the vehicle at around 10:30 p.m. in the area of Main Street and College Avenue and notified Air1.

The police helicopter followed the vehicle, while ground units maintained a safe following distance.

The suspect travelled for approximately four kilometres to Ellice Avenue and Young Street, where police say he drove directly head-on into a marked police car. The driver attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested a short distance away.
