Winnipeg police took two people into custody after a 17-year-old girl was assaulted and carjacked on December 12.
Police say the teen had just parked her vehicle in the 500 block of London Street at around 5:30 p.m. when she was approached by a man and a woman.
The suspects were carrying a baton and a utility knife and managed to grab her keys after striking her several times with the baton. The victim wasn’t injured.
Police say the victim’s debit card was fraudulently used a short time later at a convenience store in the Dufferin neighbourhood.
Officers spotted the stolen vehicle at around 3:25 a.m. the next morning in the area of Toronto Street and St. Matthew’s Avenue. The woman driving the car took off at a high rate of speed once she notified police, soon crashing into a tree in the 200 block of Toronto Street.
Both suspects ran from the vehicle, but were apprehended nearby.
Alexis Kelly Karen Hourie, 20, and Mark Bosadas Marmeto, 28, face numerous charges and remain in custody.
