What’s Open and Closed Over the Holidays in Winnipeg

The holidays are a time to get together with loved ones and friends and celebrate the spirit of the season. As many take time off from work, school and their everyday schedules, many city services are also taking a break.

Here’s what’s open, closed or operating with reduced hours in Winnipeg on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Shopping Centres

  • Kildonan Place — Closed December 25 and January 1. (New Year’s Eve: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Grant Park — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Outlet Collection — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., New Year’s Eve: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • St. Vital Centre — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve: Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., New Year’s Eve: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Polo Park — Closed December 25 and January 1. (Christmas Eve: Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., New Year’s Eve: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

Manitoba Liquor Marts

December 24: — All Liquor Marts in Winnipeg and Brandon will open at 8 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
December 25 — All Manitoba Liquor Marts will be closed.
December 26 — All Manitoba Liquor Marts will open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
December 31 — All Liquor Marts in Winnipeg and Brandon will open at 8 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., except for the Pembina Village Liquor Mart Express, which will close at 6 p.m.
January 1 — All Manitoba Liquor Marts will be closed.

Manitoba Museum

December 22 to January 6 — Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
December 24 — Open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
December 25 — Closed

Assiniboine Park Zoo

Open daily 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but closed on Christmas Day

The Park Café — Open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Closed Christmas Day
The Pavilion — Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Closed Christmas Day

City of Winnipeg Civic Offices

Closed at 12 p.m. on Monday, December 24, and closed all day on Tuesday, December 25, and Wednesday, December 26, 2018. Civic offices will also be closed on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

Recycling and garbage collection will not be collected on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If your collection day falls on or after these days, please put your carts out one day later during these two weeks.

Let’s Chip In Christmas Tree Recycling Depots

Residents can recycle their real Christmas trees by dropping them off at any of the eight Let’s Chip In depots, open from December 27, 2018, to January 31, 2019. Please remove all plastic tree bags, tinsel, decorations, and tree stands. Plastic bags and other garbage should be taken home to be disposed of and not left at the depots. Free wood chips will be available at all Let’s Chip In depots in early January (while quantities last). Please bring your own container.

4R Winnipeg Depot Locations

Real trees can also be dropped off for free recycling year-round at the 4R Winnipeg Depots located at 1777 Brady Rd., 429 Panet Rd., and 1120 Pacific Ave., during regular operating hours. Wood chips will not be available at these locations.

Trees placed beside recycling or garbage carts will not be collected.

Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule on:

Take a Free Ride on New Year’s Eve

Take a free bus ride this New Year’s Eve starting at 7 p.m. until end of service. The last buses leave downtown at approximately 1:38 a.m. The free ride offer applies to all Winnipeg Transit and Handi-Transit service.

Cemetery offices will be open until 4:30 p.m. on December 24 and closed on December 25, December 26, and January 1.
