Winnipeg police took a man into custody on Saturday after he ran into a restaurant armed with a gun.
Police received a report of an armed man at around 10:35 a.m. in the 500 block of Dufferin Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the suspect and a woman fleeing northbound on foot.
Police caught up to the pair in a yard in the 500 block of Stella Avenue and the man became uncooperative pacing back and forth. While attempting to arrest the man, the woman stood between the officer and the suspect and began yelling. The man pulled away from police and continued to run.
Officers caught up to him when he ran into the restaurant. Police entered and found three .38 calibre rounds of ammunition, 13.7 grams of methamphetamine worth $1,200, a digital scale, cell phone and $115 in cash.
Police also found 3.3 grams of meth in a bag inside the restaurant. A K9 unit later attended and found a loaded .38 calibre handgun with six rounds of ammunition that the man had ditched while being pursued.
The gun was reported stolen during a break-in from Carnduff, Saskatchewan in late November 2018.
Bjarne Joseph Lee Roussin, 39, faces drugs and weapons charges. Pearl Ophelia Smith, 33, has been charged with obstructing a peace officer.
Both suspects remain in custody.
