December 24, 2018 11:36 AM | News

Winnipeg Police CrestA fresh layer of snow led Winnipeg police to a suspect accused of stealing a vehicle early Monday.

Police spotted the vehicle at around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Main Street and Redwood Avenue.

The suspect quickly sped away as police attempted to pull it over.

About 15 minutes later, officers found the abandoned car in a lane in the 600 block of Cathedral Avenue. Footprints in the snow leading away from the vehicle tipped off officers to the suspect’s direction. A K9 unit tracked the man to the area of Andrews Street and Machray Avenue, where he was taken into custody.

The man was in possession of the vehicle’s keys, which was stolen from the 1000 block of Henry Avenue on December 21.

Randy Clarke, 39, faces several charges, including failing to comply with a probation order. He remains in custody.
