Winnipeg police officers were surrounded and assaulted during an escalating situation at a downtown hotel bar on New Year’s.
Police say they received a series of calls regarding violence at The Marlborough Hotel Monday night. When they responded, they found several people with weapons, observed fights and an over-intoxicated unruly crowd. During the ruckus, someone threw a table through a seventh storey window onto the street below, while causing $10,000 damage to a suite.
More than 20 officers and cadets were involved at one point.
Concerned for public safety, officers issued an emergency closure order of the bar.
During the melee, police also took Michael Caribou into custody, who was wanted on a second-degree murder warrant.
