Winnipeg police shot and killed an armed man Friday night after responding to a call in the area of Sargent Avenue and Maryland Street.
Officers arrived on scene shortly before 8 p.m. for a report of a suspicious man. When they approached the suspect, police say he ran and led officers to a nearby vacant parking lot.
Police say that’s when they found the man armed with a weapon and multiple officers fired their guns.
Medical treatment was provided to the man before he was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
It’s the second time this week police have fired their weapons. On Wednesday night, police shot at a vehicle being driven by a suspect near the intersection of Panet Road and Nairn Avenue.
