Suspect Charged After Winnipeg Man Attacked with Hammer

Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police have made an arrest after a 56-year-old man was struck several times with a hammer last fall.

Police say the victim was at home in the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue on October 10, 2018 when the assault occurred.

Police say the victim suffered life-altering injuries in the attack and was taken to hospital.

The suspect couldn’t be located, but a warrant for his arrest was issued. On January 11, officers found the suspect in the area of Magnus Avenue and Aikins Street after he stole two bottles of soda from a nearby convenience store.

Justin Emile Pelletier of Winnipeg, 22, has been charged with aggravated assault, theft and failing to comply with a probation order. He remains in custody.
