Off-Duty Winnipeg Police Officer Charged with Assault

Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba - IIUA Winnipeg police officer has been charged with assault following an off-duty incident in March 2017.

The Independent Investigation Unit says the 32-year-old man allegedly punched and kneed a person being arrested, causing a number of head injuries.

Following an investigation, IIU civilian director Zane Tessler determined there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred.

Patrol Sergeant Sean Cassidy met with IIU investigators on Monday to be notified of the charge. He will appear in court on March 11.
