Children Pepper-Sprayed During Winnipeg Home Invasion

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG — Three children were indirectly pepper-sprayed during a home invasion Tuesday night.

Police say multiple suspects forced their way into a home in the 200 block of Power Street at around 10:25 p.m. and confronted a man in his 20s.

That’s when they pepper-sprayed the man, say police. Several nearby children — aged three, five and seven — were also affected by the spray.

A woman in her 20s and her daughter were then confronted with a hatchet before the mother was threatened with assault. The suspects eventually made off with an undisclosed amount of property.

Officers arrested three suspects at a home in the 500 block of College Avenue after about an hour.

Brandon David Thomas Richard, 25, and Jarrett Michael Stevens, 22, have been charged and remain in custody. The third suspect was released without charges.

Police continue to investigate, but say the incident doesn’t appear to be random in nature.
