WINNIPEG — The Western Hockey League’s Kootenay Ice are expected to relocate to the city after an official announcement scheduled for Tuesday.

50 Below Sports + Entertainment chair and governor Greg Fettes, Ice president and general manager Matt Cockell and WHL Commissioner Ron Robison will make the announcement at the future site of The RINK in Oak Bluff. Fettes is the founder and CEO of Winnipeg-based 24-7 InTouch.

The Ice will move to their temporary home at the University of Manitoba’s 1,400-seat Wayne Fleming Arena while construction on the new arena takes shape.

The Ice will play their inaugural 2019-20 season in Winnipeg beginning in the fall.

The RINK is a site located near McGillivray Boulevard in the RM of Macdonald on the South Landing development. Construction is expected to take at least two seasons.

Further details will be released Tuesday afternoon.
